2009 Scholarship Donors -
The Scholarship Program was established in 1991 with a purpose of providing premium increases and scholarships to 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors. In the area of premiums, the program has seen wonderful success. All funds are now being dedicated to scholarships.

The State Fair of West Virginia is a great place to share ideas and showcase the best from your farm! We encourage everyone to exhibit their prize winning livestock at the 2009 State Fair.
New for 2009:
- Registered Clydesdales Draft Horse Show
- All Other Purebreds Sheep Show
- Ultrasound evaluations for market steers, market lambs, and market goats.
- Junior American Boer Goat show. We have increased premiums in both the feeder calf show and the open dairy show.

Junior Livestock Show -
Youth from all across West Virginia are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Annual Junior Livestock Show. Participants must be current members of a West Virginia 4-H or FFA organization.
Each year the State Fair of West Virginia hosts hundreds of FFA and 4-H members from around the state as they proudly show their market animals. Participating members then sell their market animals through the Annual Youth Livestock Sale. Business men and women, family members and community supporters come together in support of West Virginia youth by purchasing their animals. Open Horse Show -
During the first several days of the Fair, August 14 - August 19, majestic horses of various breeds will call the "Bluegrass Bowl" home as they show. Each day of the schedule is full of classes that will excite horse lovers of all ages!

Draft Horse Pulls -
The State Fair of West Virginia is proud to offer several different horse events. Including the Draft Horse Pull. If you've never witnessed a Draft Horse Pull, make time during the 2009 State Fair to watch these magnificent animals. Using a solid bottomed sled for pulling, teams of horses will start with a minimum pulling weight of 3000 pounds. The sled and weights must be pulled a minimum of 27 1/2 feet, in one pull, to qualify and continue in the competition. Weight is increased for the second pull and for each succeeding pull according to the judge's decision.
Harness Racing -
Harness Racing events at the State Fair of West Virginia continue to be an annual tradition for folks of all ages. The 2009 Harness Racing schedule will be posted soon.
