Farming Heritage Award

The Farming Heritage Award honors the history of agriculture as represented on the West Virginia State Seal - and recognizes families who have worked in agriculture for generations.

The Farming Heritage Award is presented to a family that has strived to maintain its rural lifestyle by contributing to the community, acting as role models, dedicating time to efficient agricultural production and to maintaining the upkeep of their farm.

For 2010, we are pleased to announce that the Butler Farm located in Inwood, WV, has been chosen to receive this honor.  Bill & JoAnn Butler serve as the Family Partriarch and Matriach.  Four generations of the Butler family have worked approximately 1500 acres of Apple Orchards and Beef Cattle Farm operations alongside the Sportsman Hunting Preserve.  Bill Butler and son, Todd Butler currently care for the land that has been entrusted to them.

The Butler Family will be honored on Thursday, August 19, 2010 on Governor's Day during the State Fair.  A special luncheon/reception will be held in their honor during which time Governor Manchin, III and Commissioner Douglas will address the group and participate in the Awards Ceremony.

Congratulations Butler Family and THANK YOU for carrying on the traditions that make WV Proud!!

This award is made possible through a partnership with the West Virginia Farm Bureau.

Winning families are treated to an award ceremony during the State Fair on Governor's Day, a luncheon, overnight accommodations, free admission, preferred parking and a Natural Stone Sign award with the family's name that may be displayed indoors or outdoors. A photo and brief biography of the winners are displayed in the Gus R. Douglass Annex during the State Fair.
